Guardian Home Program

What's a Guardian & How Does It Work?

Independence Poodles does not use kennel facilities, dog runs, etc. All of our poodles are loved & adored family pets first and foremost. With that goal in mind, we've chosen to entrust some of our up & coming breeding prospects to guardian homes.  Guardians not only receive the support of the breeder but additionally get the benefits of our amazing guardian family network which includes groomers, trainers, & awesome poodle lovers!

How Does It Work?

A selected poodle will be placed with a guardian family at no up front cost. Guardians are required to provide a safe and loving home, high quality kibble, regular grooming, training, standard veterinary care, and monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventatives that are approved by the breeder. Guardians must work with the breeder to meet conformation goals & are required to earn their CGC as well as train and title the dog in at least two performance events.  Guardians must be willing to deliver the poodle to the breeder for health testing appointments, breeding, & whelping.  All breeding expenses, including spay/neuter at retirement, are covered by the breeder.  Independence Poodles maintains ownership of each guardian poodle during his/her breeding career. At retirement, ownership is signed over to the guardian.

Who Can Be a Guardian?

Guardian placements must reside within the DFW metroplex & must be committed to our goal of raising happy, healthy, socialized poodles. The application process includes a questionnaire, phone interview, reference check, and in home visit.  We require a signed contract that lists all requirements/expectations for both the guardian and breeder. Independence Poodles reserves the right to remove a poodle from its guardian placement at any time if it is found that contract conditions are not being met.
